Favourite Poems Read by Animals

If there is one thing the Web has taught us it is that a lot of people have too much time on their hands. This video is evidence of that. It was recommended to me by Angela Macmillan and is remarkable not only for the quality of the reading (Dylan Thomas’s ‘Do not go gentle into that good night’) but the length of time it must have taken to train the dog to speak. And with such lovely vowels too:

  1. What a wonderful voice reading the poem. I wonder who it is. The dog is silly, but fun. I’m not sure Thomas would have approved though.

  2. Some of the comments on the YouTube site suggest it could be Thomas himself reading. It would be nice to know for sure. I always imagined Thomas would sound more, erm, Welsh.

  3. Or could it be Richard Burton? I can’t tell on my crappy computer (poor lovely little thing that it is really… but crappy for anything technical or swish).

  4. The voice is definitely Dylan Thomas and I think it is hard to take offence because the dog is so serious and utterly dignified.
